chapter five, page thirty five:

From this day forth until the following Monday, he has to let work revolve around his life then rest once submission is over.

The morning was set off with a run, with improvement to four rounds but surprisingly to him, he did not feel tired. He is certain it is the weather.

After the run, loud noises filled the place and sparks were spotted in the sky. He thought it was some commemoration of some sort. After the firings, fire crackers were set off, it was really loud with a lot of pollution. This was his first time seeing firecrackers set off.

The reason for this was for good luck to the beams and columns that were just completed. It was the construction site that had been waking him up early during the first two weeks. Unfortunately, the windows were left open at his dormitory and ashes filled the room, having him to pick them up bit by bit.

chapter five, page thirty four:

Today’s site visits were all design ones for Jonathan. When he first arrived at his destination, he spotted a familiar sandwich store, Subway, and hypnotically floated in and bought a 奇qi士shi牛niu排pai, steak and cheese sandwich. He made the order in Chinese, stressfully, and messed up halfway.

一yi个ge奇qi士shi牛niu排pai,六liu英ying寸cun,全quan(麦mai)面mian包bao.
Olives were ordered as “黑hei色se的de”.

The first stop up was to 180China, some advertising firm or at least of that sort. It was quite an interesting talk despite it being in Chinese.

The second stop was to view show flats with really “not his kind” of design, although it was still nice to look at, but definitely not the type for him to stay in.

Lunch was done at a seafood restaurant, with alright food, but Jonathan was getting sick of the Chinese local food, he ended up eating more peanuts.

The last stop was to e-graphics, the best site visit he had been to, because the talk was in English, and easy to understand because the speaker was not local, a French national instead.

He is really tired of playing hopscotch everywhere he goes, hopscotch with phlegm spits.

chapter five, page thirty three:

The morning, early morning, was spent doing work. From the previous day, it was almost intensive production for the interim review today.

Sky at 10PM

As work was in progress, the sky was changing along with the moon setting and sun rising.

Sky at 3AM

Sky at 4.30AM

The interim review today was not too bad today. Lecturer Jonathan Ho said he looked relaxed, and taking it easy. It did not sound like good words to him though, perhaps it is slightly true that he feels more relaxed here.

A design talk was held again today for all the design students, and having slept only at 5AM, and waking up at 8AM, he went off to some other world in his mind almost quite soon. He felt really bad, embarrassed that he was sleeping off a talk that effort was put into. At least from time to time, he did stay awake and found the lecture really interesting. It was held in Chinese, and surprisingly, he could understand quite a bit of it.

The evening was spent playing badminton for 2 hours again, running around the court like a mad dog chasing after a thrown Frisbee.

chapter five, page thirty one:

News was received the night before that the letter sent back two weeks ago was received.

(Flashback) Two Fridays ago, after the trekking session, he stopped by a convenience store and came across brown envelopes with old school paper types, and decided to get some to write letters back. Not being very good with words, and writing, he tried his best.

After an hour of writing, he headed off to the post office and sent off the letter. Stamps were bought and pasted onto the envelope with old-school method, gooey sticky glue that he once used when he was in Primary school for art classes.
