introduction, page one:

Jonathan left Singapore at 0930 and arrived at 1530 in Beijing, before setting off again at 2030 for Dalian.

Upon arrival in Beijing, the immediate gush of wind was indescribable. He tried to get himself comfortable with the new surrounding, both in language and climatic changes. He had dinner at an Arting Chinese Restaurant which was really expensive, coming up to be about 50RMB for a bowl of noodles.

While going through the immigration checkpoints, the officers were screaming at everyone, speaking as though he was deaf. Being “naturally” poor in Chinese, he felt lost when they spoke to him.
As the officer scanned his body, it beeped numerous times at the pocket area, only to reveal their own metallic coins.

There was a long wait before heading off the Dalian, and upon his arrival, it started to rain heavily.

Everyone was driven to the hostel at Dalian Polytechnic University, a hostel that he did not expect. With standards to Singapore’s hostels at the universities, Jonathan was almost imagining full six elevation concrete interior. However, when he arrived, he was greeted with a hotel-looking lobby. He thought to himself, they must be at a pit-stop, they would continue the journey later. But to his utmost inexpressible emotions, it was really the place they were going to stay for the next 52 days! He had nothing left to complain about.
